2023 Australian Open – Day Three recap
Men’s singles sectional action came to a close and women’s pairs play commenced on a jam-packed third day of the 2023 Australian Open.
The final third of the 303 men’s singles section competed across the Gold Coast, with more big names making their way through to the round of 512.
2022 Commonwealth Games singles gold medallist Aaron Wilson & silver medallist Gary Kelly both advanced unbeaten from their groups.
Wilson’s 2022 Australian Open champion pairs partner and fellow Jackaroo Ben Twist snuck his way out of his group, dropping a hard-fought match to Kyle Hansen but progressing on shot difference.
Josh Walker-Davis, second in the national rankings, also booked his spot in the knockout rounds.
The men’s singles now moves on to knockout rounds, with the round of 512 starting on Saturday.

The women’s pairs also commenced on Monday, with 27 sections taking to the greens.
2022 pairs champion Olivia Bloomfield, teaming up with new partner Samantha Robinson, will have to rely on next best qualifiers to defend her title, winning two games with -10 shot difference.
That same section (9), featured some big names, with Natasha Van Eldik & Genevieve Delves teaming up to advance unbeaten and a huge +67 shot difference in a group also featuring Emma Boyd & Kira Bourke.
2022 pairs runners-up Wendy Wilson & Tris Doolan started their campaign to go one better in great fashion, winning three of three games.
Twin sisters Bolivia & Cassandra Millerick will also rely on next-bests, dropping a game to Jessica Parolin & Maria Rigby who topped the group unbeaten. A shot difference of +33 will hold them in good stead however.
Katelyn Inch & Chloe Stewart also looked strong with three wins and +60 shot difference.
The final sections of women’s pairs will compete on Tuesday, while men’s pairs sectional action will get under way.
