Australian Open entries close April 14
Get in quick to secure your place in the 2017 Australian Open draw Time is running out for you to enter the world’s biggest festival of bowls, in fact there is just two weeks remaining until entries will close for the 2017 Australian Open.
Entries have been streaming in over the past week but as a reminder to those bowlers who are yet to register, entries will close on April 14.
The 2017 Australian Open will hit the Gold Coast for the third consecutive year after relocating from Melbourne to Australia’s new bowling mecca.
The Gold Coast is the home of the Australian Open until 2020 and what better year to get amongst the world’s richest bowls event than the year leading up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Australian Open will have international flare this year with a number of countries using the 2017 Open as a lead up to the prestigious Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, of course being contested at the Broadbeach Bowls Club, the home of the Australian Open finals.
Whilst there will be an influx of international bowlers, it’s the Gold Coast bowling community benefitting the most from having a world class event contested on their doorsteps.
The chance to mix it with the best of the best has been embraced by local bowlers over the past two years, however many bowlers have used the Australian Open as a perfect winter getaway; a bowling holiday in a world famous holiday destination.
Over the years the Australian Open has embraced the festival like atmosphere adding nightly events such as the Mega Bowl Mixed Singles and Mixed Pairs, Live panel announcements previewing the post sectional draws and a marquee at the entrance to the Broadbeach Bowls Club to shop until you drop!
Don’t forget if you haven’t got a pairs or fours team, plenty of bowlers are using the Bowls Australia Facebook page as a ‘partner finding’ service.

Here are some quick facts about the 2017 Australian Open.
• It’s a completely open event with no qualifying;
• Sectional rounds are played in each discipline initially, with qualifiers progressing through to the knockout stages;
• It is a completely random draw with no seeding in either sectional or knockout play;
• Up to 15 hosts clubs spread from Coolangatta in the south to Beenleigh in the north;
• 14 days of competition from June 10-23, 2017;
• 20 disciplines with a total prize pool of $250,000, including $1,500 prize for the Player of the Tournament (determined by Player Rankings Points);
• Over 540 prize money places across all disciplines, Men’s singles will pay down to the round of 128;
• Two days of finals filmed and broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports.
