McKenzie Park Nerang

History and Overview

Founded in 1993, McKenzie Park Nerang is part of the wider Nerang Bowls and Community Club. Located within McKenzie Park in leafy Nerang, the club has a strong history of junior development with many of Queensland’s finest recent products being associated with the club.

Club Logistics

The club is located within the McKenzie Park off the M1 Motorway in Nerang, and has ample parking on site. The club is serviced by a number of bus routes, however these may be unreliable on weekends.

McKenzie Park Nerang has two greens, one grass and one synthetic as well as a fully licensed bar, pokies and bistro area running seven days a week. The club also runs a courtesy bus for it’s patrons.

Personalities and Legends

As a club known for junior development, some of Queensland’s finest bowlers have plied their trade at McKenzie Park Nerang in their younger days, including current Australian Jackaroo Lynsey Clarke, former Australia Jackaroo and defending Australian Open Pairs champion Sean Baker, his defending Australian Open Pairs champion partner Robbie Wild and former Australian Under 18 squad member Sean Ingham.

Thoughts on the Australian Open

The club was excited to be involved in 2016 for the first time and used the event to raise the club’s profile; Secretary Kevin Goldie explains: “We are a little bit out of the main areas, so we don’t want to be forgotten. Any exposure that the club gets out of the event will be great.”
