Barry and Appleton do the Bowlers with a Disability double
Josh Barry (Sebastopol) and Nathan Appleton (North Toowoomba) have taken out the Multi Disability Pairs title today, adding to their respective disability singles titles yesterday to cap off a memorable Australian Open campaign. In the Vision Impaired Pairs, Queenslanders Chris Backstrom and Jake Fehlberg took down defending champions Dennis Wormald and Joy Forster 17-15 in a gripping affair. Josh Barry (Sebastopol) and Nathan Appleton (North Toowoomba) have taken out the Multi Disability Pairs title today, adding to their respective disability singles titles yesterday to cap off a memorable Australian Open campaign.
They topped Queenslanders Don Currie and Debra McGarry 17-10 in the final today after toppling Commonwealth Games representative Tim Slater and his partner Lucas Protopapas in the semi final.
Appleton claims the double of Intellectual Disability Singles and Multi Disability Pairs after already claiming a 2015 singles title, while Barry’s double of Physical Disability Singles and Multi Disability Pairs is particularly sweet as he came runner in both disciplines in 2015.
“It’s really good to win, the Australian Open is one of the biggest tournaments in the world in the disability events so it’s great to win.” Barry said.
“Playing with Nathan is good; we don’t talk much on the green but we know how each other play so it’s great”.
In the Vision Impaired Pairs, Queenslanders Chris Backstrom and Jake Fehlberg took down defending champions Dennis Wormald and Joy Forster 17-15 in a gripping affair.
The match had been tied on 15-15 going into the final end before Backstrom and Fehlberg pulled out the crucial two.
