After two days of competition the combined Bowls Australia NTC Squad members prevailed over Hong Kong China The Bowls Australia National Training Centre Squad has prevailed over Hong Kong China in their two day test series prior to the Australian Open.
The Australians were victorious on both days going through with six consecutive test wins and a two series to nil win over our international visitors.
The Hong Kong China squad of 12 travelled to the Gold Coast to take part in the $250,000 Australian Open and in a prelude to the main event; they contested this series against some of Australia’s brightest young stars.
Hong Kong China have become regular competitors in the Australian Open and once again this year called on Brett Wilkie’s QLD NTC Squad to practice against in the days leading up to the premier event.
Bowlers from all over Australia who are members of their respective National Training Centre Squad’s answered the call from Australian Jackaroo Brett Wilkie to join some of his squad members in the test series held at Club Helensvale and Paradise Point.
Australian Jackaroos Captain Lynsey Clarke was in charge of the Australian contingent on day one and set a challenge to her Vice-Captain Brett Wilke to out-do the results her team delivered at Club Helensvale; and with competitions as fierce as these there is only one winner and that was Lynsey Clarke!
Brett Wilkie says he is extremely pleased with how the entire squad is shaping up ahead of the world’s biggest festival of bowls.
“It was very pleasing to see how well the NTC Squad played during the two days of competition and how they all conducted themselves on the green,” said Wilkie.
“I’m glad that some of our newest members of the squad were able to take part and get a taste of high level competition.
“I know all the NTC Squad members from all over the country have been putting in a huge effort with their training prior to the Australian Open and I look forward to seeing that pay off for them at the end of the two weeks of competition.
“I would also like to thank the Hong Kong China contingent for helping to organise the event and playing against our Bowls Australia NTC Squad for the second consecutive year.”
A big thank-you to Club Helensvale and Paradise Point Bowls Club for hosting this series; we know all the Australian Open competitors will be just as impressed by your facilities and fantastic greens as the players were during the NTC v HKC test series.
Overall during the six tests Australia won 27.5 rinks to Hong Kong China’s 8.5.
