If anyone knows the Gold Coast it’s Australian Jackaroos Captain Lynsey Clarke

Lynsey Clarke knows the Gold Coast like the back of her hand and has offered to share her favourite past times with the Australian Open competitors. Australian Jackaroos Captain Lynsey Clarke has lived on the Gold Coast for most of her life and is therefore the perfect person to act as a tour guide for all the visiting bowlers, sending them in the direction of all her favourite things to see and do on the Gold Coast during this year’s Australian Open.

Lynsey knows Gold Coast restaurants, she knows plenty about the world famous theme parks and today she is sharing her information with all the Australian Open competitors.

We thought of five things you might have planned during the 14 day festival of bowls; going to the beach, eating out, sightseeing, attending one of the many other events or activities the Gold Coast has to offer and of course going to the world famous theme parks.

The options are endless so Lynsey has shared her favourites and hopefully that helps you plan some after bowls activities.

Bowls Australia: Favourite Beach?

Lynsey Clarke: If I had to pick just one I’d probably say I love Main Beach. It’s the closest beach to where I live but also just a short walk to the busy Surfers Paradise beach and the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast. It has a great surf club behind it as well. All our beaches are spectacular though, beautiful white sand and big waves. It’s awesome to spend the day there with a sun shelter and picnic.

BA: Favourite Restaurant?

LC: Restaurant 360 on the Broadwater in Labrador is my favourite dining spot and I go there on a regular basis. It has a fantastic menu with such a good variety of options, well priced, friendly service and a great atmosphere. It is right next door to the Grand Hotel if you wanted to continue on into the night. Also if we’ve got a special occasion to celebrate we like Moo Moo’s at Broadbeach; it is amaaaaazing! Bit expensive though so save it for birthdays/anniversaries/important celebrations etc. Oooh and Edgewater at the Isle of Capri is beautiful too!!! Soooo many great places to choose from here on the Gold Coast, we’re definitely spoilt!

BA: Favourite activity or event?

LC: I love the footy. Having our own team in the competition now the Gold Coast Suns is just fantastic. We’ve been inaugural members of this great club and love attending their home games at the fantastic Metricon Stadium. They were even winning some matches early this year which makes it even more fun!! I love a day or night out at the footy with family and friends. It’s a great united community event.

BA: Favourite free GC pastime?

LC: I’m a massive fan of heading up to Mt Tamborine on my weekends off. It’s a beautiful spot up there with lots of amazing lookouts, you can watch hand gliders run off the hills, mountain walks, markets, galleries, cafes, wineries, and a cheese factory attached to a brewery which has live music on a Sunday afternoon. It’s worth the drive.

BA: Favourite theme park and why?

LC: My favourite theme park is Dreamworld. We had family passes to this park since I was a little kid so I have great memories of my time there with Kenny and Belinda, the famous koala mascots. It’s changed and improved a lot over the years but I love their big mix of thrill rides, leisure rides, the animals and now WhiteWater World which is part of Dreamworld. Also, now being a new mum and aunty the kid’s park at Dreamworld is unreal!! Double bonus; its only five minutes from my house so I love it!

Now keep a look out in the Australian Open newsletters for more activities to take part in during the Australian Open, like one bowl singles events and footy themed nights at the Broadbeach Bowls Club.
